A prophet or prophetess is someone who is said to be in contact with a divine being and is said to speak on behalf of that being. Serving as an intermediary with humanity by delivering messages or teachings from the supernatural source to people. This is according to Wikipedia.

A prophet is well respected and seen as the mouthpiece of God or gods. They are revered as someone who is in touch with the future and provides solutions or answers to a situation or circumstances.

So, in a nutshell, a prophet is a guide, an intermediary between the supernatural and the natural. A prophet is a teacher, adviser, and problem solver.

According to the Holy Books, the prophet gives instructions when we go into battle or warn people of the rot of God or gods.

We often want to be sure of what the supernatural predicts about our present actions and future consequences. Sometimes we just want that hope of a better tomorrow or to check if there is light at the end of the tunnel. A prophet aligns with the Supernatural to tell us what fate holds for us in the present and the future.

Then, Prophecy is the prediction of the future. This is according to Wikipedia.

A prediction can be true or false. With the happenings in the world right now, everyone wants to be able to predict the future, especially in a part of the world where there is so much struggle or suffering.

People tend to look for a way to commune with the supernatural and so there are rise of the prophets and numerous prophecy(predictions).

I would say the communion of a prophet with the Divine has made a lot of people discredit the logical use of the brain and the empathetic nature of humans.

The prophetic has become a sword that pierces deep into some religions and has caused havoc to some and healed or provided solutions to the rest.

The dynamics of the prophet or its prophecy begin to make me wonder if some of these acclaimed prophets hear from God or do they just forge things to give hope to the suffering person or make the confused relaxed.

Many of these prophecy or the prophetic has caused war, riot, resolutions, crisis and broken relationship, trust and homes even countries.

Let me tell you a story of why I don’t believe in all prophecy or prophets. Or what we tagged revelations.

Firstly, I know how deeply the mind works and how powerful beliefs are. Whatever the mind sees becomes an intended reality making the human body and energies around the physical realm align and bring it to Fruition.

I won’t say that because a prophecy caused a fight or brought about war makes it false. But, then how do we deduce that the prophet has a connection with the divine being or hears from the supernatural?

Back to my story; While growing up my parents had a hard start, so my mum became more fervent in prayer and trying to find solutions to the hard times.

My mum went to all kinds of prayer meetings, mountains, men and women of God. So one faithful day, she was directed to a prophetess by her friend. She told her how the prophetess would tell her, her life history, problem, and causes. She would also give her solutions to it.

My mum went and on one occasion the prophet told her to bring all her children and everyone in her household.

She took us and our relative who was staying with us back then and assisting my mum. She couldn’t convince or tell my Dad about it cause my Father was not in support of it or believe it.

We went to the prophetess ministry and after the service, she decided to see my family. She started asking me questions like: “ Have you been dreaming of flying in the night, did someone usually feed you in the dream” and I answered: “No”. She told my mum someone was trying to initiate me.

When she got to my relative, our help. She told my mum she was a witch and belonged to a marine world. She accused her of having dreams she never had and blamed her as part of the cause for the hard times.

She told my mum to pay some cash for prayers and deliverance cause she would be fasting on our behalf and delivering our help.

Our help was unsettled about the whole discovery and she cried. My mum on the other hand believed the prophetess and got really angry with our relative for being the cause of our predicament.

I watched my relative suffer at the hands of the prophetess as per deliverance. I saw her lose herself. When I couldn’t take it anymore I had to tell my Dad. I was very grateful that my Dad was more logical.

He was able to make my mum understand that this could be a falsehood and he stopped us from attending that Ministry. My Dad delivered my mum from the delusion of what she saw as a prophecy just because the prophetess could tell her the past.

Another scenario was with a well-known man of God whose words were respected. On one New Year’s Eve, he gave a prophecy concerning the upcoming election and said the opposition party candidate was who God wanted as the leader.

Many voted for the opposition party because of the prophecy and the promised good governance backing the prophecy. 2 years later, people began to see the aftermath and believed that the prophecy was false.

I can go on and on about how some of these prophecies and prophets have misled a lot of people. How it seems like some of these prophecies are false and the prophets seem fake.

I’m not saying that they didn’t hear from God or gods as the case may be. I’m just saying some of these things should be properly filtered.

Most times, these prophets were true at some point but they might start deviating due to some selfish gain. Some of them have used their office as a prophet to pass on their opinion as that of the divine.

The poor show us who we are, the prophet tells us who we could be. So they hide the poor and kill the prophet- Philip Berrigan.

The above statement often determines if the prophet is the one who speaks the truth as plainly as it is.

The future predictions(prophecy) should be determined by the present actions or inactions of a person. You can’t say that the divine will of a suffering nation battling with corruption, bribery, forgery, and bad leaders that there is a brighter tomorrow without taking out the root cause of their problems.

The future can only be better if the cause of today’s problem is unraveled and solved. A prophecy that doesn’t deal with ways or tackle the challenges of today cannot envisage a positive outcome of a better tomorrow.

The prophets should be able to bring light to the darkness in the world and the truth to a bunch of lies.

When a prophecy throws one into the utmost confusion without giving the clarity that is needed then, I don’t think the prophet has communed we’ll with the Divine being.

I’m not saying that prophecies are not true or that the prophets lied. But I don’t think it’s ideal that prophecy instills fear, causes war, or seems like a weapon to destroy another life or relationship.

Is terrible that some of these prophecies have broken bonds between spouses, parents, and their children. And have left so many in shock and confusion.

This is to tell us to be weary and careful of what we receive or perceive as prophecy or who we believe to be a prophet.

We should not forget to live in the present even when we are eager to know what tomorrow holds for us. We should not forget to be logical and empathetic towards others.

We ought to be careful in what revelation we seek and understand how mystic the mind works. So we won’t be caught up by people who want to leverage our problem and use it as a source of wealth or power.

Believe in your prophets but be careful of the prophecy.
